This Week in Art

Seconds Grade created snake coil pots or coil snails.  We let them dry, and spent this week painting them.  They are so cute!

Kindergarten made clay ornaments and painted them this week.  Parents, pretend it's a surprise :)

Family Art Night 4th, 5th, 6th

This Week in Art

It's been a very busy week!  Halloween was Tuesday, Family Art Night on Thursday, and we started our crosswalk painting on Friday.  Here are some of the highlights...

Sixth grade finished their wire sculptures. That was a fun project!

The crosswalks are getting a makeover at the elementary.  Our 5th & 6th graders competed to design these awesome new pieces.  We will be working on them as the weather permits...but as you can see a little rain couldn't stop us today!

This Week in Art

The third graders tried printmaking this week. Last week they painted a tree, and this week created leaves from styrofoam.  We painted them in fall colors and added them to our awesome trees.
In second grade, we are creating cityscapes out of scrap paper.  I was amazed at some of these awesome projects (look at that cat!!).
Kinder is starting to learn about texture, so we started with SLIME! They had a blast.

This Week in Art

Kinder is making Pattern Bracelets! They made patterns on paper last week, so this week we did the same in beads.  They were so proud of their work.

First grade is experimenting with textures.  We got to feel a bunch of different things including fur and bubble wrap. Then we used texture plates to do crayon rubbings.

Family Art Night 2nd/3rd

Last night we had an absolute blast painting canvases with tape and acrylic paint.  Parents got to have a one-on-one date with their kids and make a fun project.

Watch for the sign ups for 4th/5h/6th grade Art Night, November 2nd.

This Week in Art Class

4th Graders studied American artist Alexander Calder.  We talked about his mobiles and stablies, then created our own using a single sheet of construction paper and some creativity.

The 1st graders have a hard time sitting still, so we did some still lifes :)
They practiced using their eyes to see shapes and lines and I am so proud of their work.

My 3rd graders used overlapping and blending analogous colors to create some tie dye fall pumpkins.  Come check them out on the board by the library upstairs!

Zentangle!

The 5th graders are working on contour line and zentangle.  They practice their contour line using a vase, glass, fruit or shoe.  After their drawing is good, they add zentangle to make an interesting composition.  So far so good!

Family Art Night - Kinder & 1st Grade

The first family Art Night of the year was a success!  We did a crayon & watercolor resist!  The kiddos traced their sweet little hands, and mom and dad added theirs, and a few details, with crayons before painting over them with watercolor paint.
The projects were so adorable!

Drawing Books!

Last spring, we did a Donors Choose fundraiser in order to buy some new How To Draw books for class.  The students use these during free draw, and during projects, in order to learn the shapes and details of many things they like to add to their works.  We were also able to purchase a few art reading books.  These books have been an awesome addition to the classroom and we are so thankful!

Forget Waldo..Where am I?

Our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders have been working on their own self-portrait for the "Where's Waldo" board by the Library.  Each student's drawing is posted up as they finish, and my own drawing is hiding in the crowd! Find yourself, then try and find me!

If you find me..awesome!  But keep in mind, I move every few days...so you'll have to keep looking!

Ready, Set, GO!

It's a new school year! Yay! As a parent myself, I know how daunting it is to get ready for a new school year, but also how exciting it is looking forward to all the new things that will happen!

This year, 5th and 5th graders are required to bring in a sketchbook.  You can get one that follows the guidelines for under $4 at both Target and WalMart.

Sketchbooks should be:

  • 9 x 12 inches (or close in size)
  • 70 pages (between 50-100 is great)
  • Spiral binding
  • BLANK PAGES (no lines)

I am looking forward to an awesome new year with your child!  We have so many plans for exciting and fun projects!

Hundertwasser in 1st Grade

First graders took a long look at Hundertwasser, a very eco-minded artist who liked to incorporate plants into his art AND his architecture.  They made some very creative landscapes and colored them with some fun Hundertwassery colors

Pics!

5th Grade working on their radial symmetry designs.  They put their design on a foil square and painted it to show the detail.

5th Grade also learned how to talk about art.  They found elements and principles in selected art pieces and showed the class.

6th grade did some AMAZING wire sculptures! Here we have a snitch, a mustache, an ice cream sundae and a cute little birdy.
